Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents want to know about child growth

How accurate is the child height predictor?
Our height predictor uses the Mid-Parental Height (MPH) formula which has a prediction accuracy of plus or minus 5 cm (2 inches). While genetics account for about 60-80% of height, nutrition, sleep, and overall health also play important roles. Results should be used as estimates, not guarantees.
At what age do children stop growing?
Most girls stop growing around age 14-16, typically 2-3 years after puberty begins. Boys usually stop growing around age 17-19. However, some individuals may continue growing slightly into their early 20s. Regular check-ups with a pediatrician are recommended to monitor growth.
What BMI is healthy for a child?
Unlike adult BMI, children's BMI is interpreted using age and gender-specific percentile charts. A BMI between the 5th and 85th percentile for the child's age and gender is considered healthy weight. Below 5th percentile is underweight, 85th-95th percentile is overweight, and above 95th percentile is obese.
Can nutrition affect my child's height?
Yes, nutrition plays a significant role in achieving maximum genetic height potential. Adequate protein, calcium, vitamin D, zinc, and calories are essential during growth years. Malnutrition can permanently stunt growth. However, eating extra food beyond needs won't make a well-nourished child grow taller than their genetic potential.
How does sleep affect children's growth?
Growth hormone is primarily released during deep sleep. Children aged 6-13 need 9-11 hours, and teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep nightly. Poor sleep habits can suppress growth hormone secretion and potentially limit height achievement. Consistent bedtime routines and good sleep hygiene are important for healthy growth.
